Spooky Scotland

You don’t have to wait until Halloween for a fright fest, just head up to Edinburgh this month for the Mary King’s Ghost Fest! If you love seeking out spooky spirits, telling scary ghost stories and listening out for things that go bump in the night, this is the festival for you...
At the Mary King’s Ghost Fest, from 18–23 March, you’ll have the chance to learn all about Edinburgh’s horrible history and take part in lots of exciting events. You could learn how to be a paranormal investigator with the So You Want To Be A Ghost Hunter? workshop, take to the water for a tour on a Ghostboat and you might even bump into some creepy characters from Edinburgh’s creepy past.
But, most exciting of all is the tour of The Real Mary Kings Close - a warren of hidden underground 'closes' where real people lived, worked and died. You’ll be able to explore the sights, sounds and maybe even the smells of this amazing underground world that time forgot...
Then, if you want to learn more about Edinburgh’s gruesome past, take a trip on the Horrible Histories bus tour! You’ll have loads of fun riding in a open top bus where you’ll be able to see where witches were tested at Nor Loch, explore Salisbury Crags which used to be a sideways squirting volcano and, of course, Edinburgh Castle. During the tour you’ll listen to terrible tales and spooky stories recorded especially by Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, just for kids. Cool!
