Sarah Jane Adventures

NG Kids: Anjli, tell us about your character as she's new in series two?
Anjli Mohindra (aka Rani Chandra): Yes, her name is Rani Chandra. She's strong-willed and really keen. Her family move into Maria Jackson's house and she soon gets involved with the world-saving team!
NGK: What monsters are coming up in series two?
Daniel Anthony (aka Clyde Langer): We started with Sontarans, the little potato men, and then had scary clowns but we’ve got lots more coming up too. There's a really cool Berserker Slitheen, the Bane come back and there are loads of other weird little aliens!

NGK: Where do you get the ideas for such scary monsters?
Russell T Davies (creator of the show): I think they work best when they're everyday things – we've got strange horoscopes in the third story, Secret Of The Stars. Sometimes great big monsters from outer space, like the Sontarans, work really well too though!

NGK: So is this series scarier than the first one?
RTD: Well it's definitely as scary – I can't really tell though!
Elisabeth Sladen (who plays Sarah Jane): There's more to get your teeth into with this series. I never say what I'm most scared of in case it turns up in a script one day!
NGK: What cool new gadgets have you got in this series?
ES: There's a converter that helps us go back in time. It's quite large so my pockets had to be a bit bigger! Doctor Who is so lucky with his sonic screwdriver – he just gets it out and points it. I have to fiddle around with the sonic lipstick, taking the top off and winding it up with one hand. It's a nightmare! Actually I cheat sometimes and get it ready first!

NGK: Will Doctor Who ever appear in The Sarah Jane Adventures?
RTD: He might be in the show one day, but he's not in this series. Of course, I'd lie if he was in it, so it was a surprise. But no, there are no secrets like that in series two!
AM: It would be amazing to appear in Doctor Who one day but who knows what will happen.
NGK: What's the hardest part of making The Sarah Jane Adventures?
DA: The weather! We have to check what the weather is going to be like because rain can ruin the whole day.
ES: We had really freak weather when we were shooting some of this series. You can film in the rain, as long as it doesn't go in the direction of the camera. You get quite wet sometimes though!
