Many hoppy returns
A rare frog that died out across Britain in the 1990s is back! The pool frog, which lived in Britain for 1,000 years, became extinct in the UK in 1995 because of severe habitat destruction. But a close relative of the pool frog remained alive and well in Sweden, so experts from Natural England and The Herpetological Conservation Trust have helped reintroduce it to a secret site in Norfolk. The ace amphibian has now got an ideal habitat to live in and is protected by law, so it's illegal to disturb, buy, sell or destroy its resting or breeding places. Bizarrely, the pool frog has its own distinct 'northern accent'! Listen to it below!
