Frankenweenie Interview!
Frankenweenie is the spook-tacular new movie about a young boy who brings his dog back to life! Want the inside scoop on the animation? We catch up with actor Atticus Shaffer, the voice of Edgar E Gore in the movie!
Let’s find out what he had to say...
National Geographic Kids – Hi Atticus! What’s it like to work with the iconic director, Tim Burton?
Atticus Shaffer – It’s amazing. When I first met him, I was nervous and really scared about what I would say. I also made sure I didn’t have any bogies hanging out of my nose! As it turned out, being able to talk to him and work with him was great!

NGK – What do you like the most about Tim Burton's movies?
AS – I love the way Tim's movies are always outside the box, and I love the worlds he creates. Corpse Bride was the first film I actually saw from start to finish, and that was the movie that started me wanting to be a part of this world.

NGK - What's your favourite movie in the world?
AS - That’s a tough question to answer. I like any action movie, any comedy movie and any classic black and white film, especially To Kill A Mocking Bird.

NGK – Frankenweenie is also a family horror… What scares you in real life?
AS – Arachnids. Spiders. Any bug scares me! I hate them. Everyone says that it’s good to face your fears. Well, don't. I tried – and it was terrible!
NGK – What happened?
AS – I spotted a little spider on my wall at home. Well, I say it was little, but it was big in my eyes! The body was the size of a bottle cap, which is huge in my book.
NGK – What did you do to the spider?
AS – I was talking on the phone with my friend, hoping his conversation would make me forget about the spider, and I walked over to the wall feeling brave. I grabbed a tissue and thought I had caught it, but it fell to the ground when I walked away. And then it started to walk towards me!

Check out Atticus hard at work!
NGK – Eek! What did you do?
AS – I started to scream! That was the last time I tackled a spider. I can’t do it any more. No way.
NGK – Are you a fan of pets?
AS – I love pets. After I finished the recording sessions for Frankenweenie, a really sad thing happened in my life. Our family dog, that we had for six years, passed away. I became even more bonded to the film after that.
NGK – We're sorry to hear that, Atticus. If you could bring anyone back to life, who would you choose?
AS – It would probably be the dog that passed away because he was just like Sparky in Frankenweenie. He was such a wonderful dog. I miss him a lot.

Say hi to the lucky pup that gets brought back to life!
NGK - And what's your biggest wish?
AS - To be in another Tim Burton movie. If he asked me again, I'd jump at the chance!
NGK - We'd love to see you in another Tim Burton movie, too! Thanks for answering our questions!
