We here at NG Kids were lucky enough to visit the Ubisoft studios in France to talk to the creators of the game, and meet one of the writers of the crazy story of Rayman Origins, Gabrielle Shrager. Check out the video below, and our interview with Gabrielle!

NG Kids Hi Gabrielle, can you tell us about what you do?
Gabrielle Shrager Hi guys! Of course, I am the senior game writer and lead story designer for Rayman Origins. Which means I wrote all of Rayman’s latest, wacky adventures...
NGK Cool! What’s Rayman about?
GS Well, it’s been 15 years since the first Rayman game, so Rayman Origins brings back all of the best things from the original game. It’s great fun. You can play with up to four of your friends, and you have to complete each of the levels to help save Rayman’s world – a place called the Glade Of Dreams from being overrun by evil nightmares!
NGK The Raving Rabbids appeared in the first Rayman game, we will see them in this one?
GS Well, there are lots of elements from the original game for fans of Rayman, with little nods to the previous games and fans will find their favourite things revived in these new characters and worlds. But, there are no rabbids in this one though!
NGK Did you play the first game?
GS I did! We were just kids when we made the first Rayman and now we have kids ourselves that can play Rayman Origins!
NGK Wow! Did you have lots of fun making this game?
GS We had so much fun! The best way to make these games fun for the people playing them, is that we have to keep tying something out until it becomes fun. When it does, you know you’ve done it!
NGK What kind of fun things did you do?
GS We sang silly songs to each other, or we went on walks, and we also come up with a lot of the voices of the characters ourselves because we just have so much fun doing it!
NGK It sounds brilliant! Do you play a lot of games with your friends?
GS Rayman is all about sharing! I love playing games with my friends!
NGK We do too! Whats your favourite part of the game?
GS Well, I think when you discover a new character, that’s always fun. All the characters can do so many crazy things and it’s always a funny surprise when something new happens!
NGK Who’s your favourite character?
GS Oh, the Teensies! I love those little guys. They’re so weird and crafty! But I also love Globox. He reminds me of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street, how he’s gloopy and loves food and life. He’s so fun!
NGK Where do you come up with the ideas for these crazy creatures you create?
GS Well we try not to look at something anyone else has made. We want original creations, so we look at nature. Nature is full of inspiration. You look at the creatures that exist at the bottom of the ocean, and each one is more unbelievable than the next. You can never possible create anything more amazing or strange that what nature has already done!
NGK We agree Gabrielle. What’s the best way to play Rayman?
GS Oh, with your friends of course. It’s the kind of game you can play by either helping your friends. or you by pushing each other around in a silly way!
NGK Any secret hints or cheats about the game?
GS Hmm. You need to pay attention to the magic hat. He’ll be able to help you out and has a special role in the game...
NGK Got it! How can our readers get into creating and writing for video games?
GS As long as you’re creative, love games, and use your life experiences to create your original story ideas, you’ll be able to do it!
NGK What’s your favourite game?
GS A game called Demon Souls. It’s so hard to play, because when you get killed in the game, it’s game over! No extra lives!
