Jared Kusnitz chats about the movie Prom - plus videos!

We chat to actor Jared Kusnitz about his new movie, Prom...

NG Kids Hi Jared! So what can you tell us about Prom?
Jared Kusnitz My new movie is a little snapshot into life in America for kids who are preparing for their high school prom. We tell the story about what’s going on behind the smiling faces you see at school. We’re showing how they prepare for the most perfect night in their school lives!

NGK How would you describe your character in the movie?
Jared My character is a guy called Justin and he’s a bit of a hipster. He’s a very loyal guy and he wants to have a perfect prom, but little things try to get in the way.

NGK Did you go to your prom when you were at high school?
Jared I’ll let you into a little secret… I did not go to my own personal prom! I went two years later with my best friend, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss anything special at my own prom.

NGK Why didn’t you go to your own prom?
Jared I guess I didn’t get along too well with my classmates, so I missed the prom. It didn’t bother me. I was fine with that.

NGK The movie is about a prom… Is there much dancing in it?
Jared No, not really. The finale scenes happen at the school prom, but our story is more about the things that happen in the lead up to the special night. I guess there is a little dancing towards the end, though. We show the prom in its full glory!

NGK Can you dance, Jared?
Jared Sure, I can dance. I can move! I can get down on the dance floor.

NGK What music do you like to dance to?
Jared I love Michael Jackson. I’ll try to do the moonwalk whenever I’m on a dance floor!

NGK Are there any other musicians you rate?
Jared What else do I like? Well, I’m a big fan of hip-hop. I’ve taken a few hip-hop dance classes recently and I’ve really enjoyed them. Hip-hop dancing is really fun.

NGK Do you have any dancing tips for people who are too shy to hit the dance floor?
Jared Get out there and dance! Even if you can’t dance, you should dance because you’re expressing yourself. Who is to say that what you’re doing is wrong?

NGK So don’t worry about it?
Jared Exactly! Your dancing might not look good, but it’s not wrong. That’s just how you choose to express yourself. Go out there and have fun. Who cares what anyone else says. Enjoy yourself… You can do it!
