Amazon adventure!
Great news, gang! Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton has reached the end of her amazing 2,010 mile kayak down the Amazon River in aid of Sport Relief!
Not only has she raised lots of money for Sport Relief, Helen has set two Guinness World Records! She now holds the records for the longest solo journey by kayak, and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman!
Helen told NG Kids, “It's been a massive adventure that's thrown up challenges most days, but I've had enough highs to make it more than worthwhile! It wasn’t really about setting the records – I just wanted to complete the challenge in time!”
Helen spent six tough weeks on the Amazon battling on despite heat exhaustion, sea sickness, a sunken support boat and a splintered kayak to reach her 2,010 mile target. “Everyone said this couldn’t be done because it was dangerous and I couldn’t kayak,” Helen says. “But the more people said I couldn’t do it, the more I wanted to do it!”
Blue Peter hope Helen's incredible efforts will inspire children across the UK to rise to their own challenge for Sport Relief, enter the Sport Relief Mile and help raise money that will change lives forever. Go to the Sport Relief website now to find out how you can get involved.
Catch the highs and lows of Helen’s amazing Amazon adventure in two special episodes of Blue Peter on 16 and 17 March, at 4.35pm on BBC One. Head over to the Blue Peter website for loads of cool stuff about Helen’s amazing trip!
