Animation master-class

We caught up with Phineas And Ferb creator, Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh to get some tips on becoming an animation sensation, and drawing mischief maker Phineas from the hit show...

“The best way to get into animation is to draw as much as you can," explains Swampy. "Make up different characters and experiment with different styles of drawing as well!"

"Another good way to get started is to create your own flick book so you can make up stories and see how your characters would move," says Swampy. "The more you draw, the better you’ll get!”

Read on to find out how to draw Phineas...
  1. Phineas’ head is a triangle shape, but when you draw it, make sure the back line is curved and not straight.
  2. When you draw Phineas’ eyes, imagine that you’re drawing two olives that are a slightly oval shaped. His pupils should be about the size of the olive’s pits.
  3. Remember, Phineas’ hair always has six strands, three at the front and three at the back. The middle strand is each side is always the longest.
  4. If you want to draw Phineas with different emotions, make sure you change his eyes as well as his mouth. For instance, when he’s surprised, Phineas’ eyes are wide open, his eyebrows are up in the air and his hair should be standing on end.
  5. Phineas usually wears a stripy t-shirt and blue shorts. When you draw his t-shirt, remember that there are always three orange stripes on the front and back and one orange stripe on each sleeve.
